Restoring Malibu Beaches, One Volunteer at a Time

To close out Earth Day celebrations, around 50 volunteers, some from Malibu Middle and High schools, volunteered on Saturday, April 30, for a Malibu Living Shoreline Project (MLSP) organized by the Bay Foundation Dume Restoration, which aims to restore approximately three acres of sandy beach and dune habitat at Zuma Beach and Point Dume Beach.

Successful Project to Restore Beach Dunes Looks to Expand

The Santa Monica Sand Dune Restoration Project has officially been deemed a success; now, The Bay Foundation wants to make it a permanent fixture on the beach just north of the Annenberg Beach House, while also expanding from three to eight acres of protected beach habitat in the area through a second, “phase 2” project.

Coastal Stakeholders Fight Erosion in Malibu

Malibu is known for its 21 miles of scenic coast, but due to rising sea levels, the shoreline continues to diminish each year. County stakeholders like Caltrans, the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors and the Bay Foundation implemented solutions to preserve Malibu roads and beaches, each weighing the costs and benefits of their projects.
